There were always two Twitters. Mainstream pop culture Twitter and a thousand variants of niche Twitter. The best and worst of Twitter was when those two collided. If I had to place a bet today I would guess that Threads has a good shot at becoming the mainstream default, stealing that from Twitter, with ample opportunity for the two paths to cross.
